2019 Alumni of the Year and Faculty Citation Award

02.08.2019

Moody’s Alumni Association recognizes four recipients on Alumni Day of Founder’s Week

On Friday, Feb. 8, the Moody Alumni Association presented two annual awards during Moody’s Founder’s Week conference: the 2019 Faculty Citation Award, and the 2019 Alumni of the Year Award.

Faculty Citation Award to Linguistics Professor

This year’s Faculty Citation Award was given to Stephen Clark, professor and program head of Applied Linguistics. Each year the Alumni Association chooses one nominated faculty member to honor for his or her distinguished service. Formerly a Bible translator in Papua New Guinea, professor Clark has taught in the Intercultural Studies Division since 1996. Under his leadership, many students have gone on to work in the field of Bible translation and missions.

Nancy (Andersen ’80) Hastings, executive director of the Alumni Association, presented the award to Stephen Clark and his wife, Dawn, on Alumni Day of Founder’s Week during the morning session on the Chicago campus in Torrey-Gray Auditorium. To hear about the life and ministry of professor Clark, please watch the Faculty Citation Award video tribute, which was shown during the award presentation.

Alumni of the Year Award to Three Moody Aviators

During the evening session of Founder’s Week at The Moody Church, Hastings announced the 2019 Alumni of the Year Award, which honored the lives of three Moody Aviation men posthumously: students Andrew Trouten and Joochan “Austen” Lee, and flight instructor Diego Senn, ’10. These men, who died in a Moody Aviation plane accident last July near Spokane, Wash., were recognized for their “demonstrated loyalty to the Kingdom of Christ through honorable character, ardent service, and accountability to the Word of God.”

The individual awards were presented to Mrs. Rebecca Trouten, wife of Andrew; Mrs. Naomi Senn, wife of Diego; and Austen Lee’s older sister and her husband, JooEun Lee and Yohan Shin. Austen Lee’s wife, Yuki, is expecting their first child this month and was therefore unable to travel to Chicago for the ceremony.
