Vice President and Dean of Moody Bible Institute Named

07.03.2019

Dr. Bryan O’Neal promoted to serve in new leadership role at Moody Bible Institute

Vice president and dean of Moody Bible Institute Distance Learning, Dr. Bryan O’Neal, has been promoted to vice president and associate provost of academic affairs and assessment for Moody Bible Institute (MBI), effective July 1.

"Bryan has been a valued member of Moody Bible Institute for a number of years, both from the faculty side and the administrative side," said Dr. Mark Jobe, president of Moody Bible Institute. “He continues to bring to his leadership role a deep and abiding commitment to the Lord and His Word, as well as a vast amount of ministry experience and passion for our legacy as an alum. Under his leadership, I am excited to see us further innovate and improve on our already rigorous biblical and theological training and equipping students with relevant, hands-on experience that uniquely defines us as the most influential and impactful Bible college and seminary in the 21st century.”

In his new role, Dr. O’Neal will oversee all academic programs for MBI and Moody Theological Seminary, with associate deans for academic affairs, faculty development, assessment, and educational innovation each reporting to him – all part of a newly streamlined administrative leadership structure that empowers faster and more effective decision-making. He will collaborate with fellow Provost Cabinet members on coordinating the areas of student life and student enrollment to ensure Moody recruits, develops, retains, encourages and supports a diverse and quality student body.

“I am grateful and excited to continue partnering with the world-class faculty and staff of Moody Bible Institute,” said Dr. O'Neal. “My prayer moving forward in this new and exciting role is to equip our students in such a way that they grow in their knowledge of and love for the Word of God and how to most effectively serve the Church and the world in which they are called. The opportunities and challenges are significant in the years ahead, and I am confident in our team, and most importantly our God, as we embrace the future together.”

Dr. O’Neal has been with Moody since 2002, most recently serving as vice president and dean of MBI Distance Learning, a position he held since 2015. He has also served as the dean of the undergraduate school faculty from 2010 to 2015, and previous to that as a professor of Theology.

Dr. O'Neal earned a B.A. in Theology/Pastoral Studies from Moody Bible Institute. He also earned a M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Purdue University, and a MBA from Valparaiso University.

In addition to his role at Moody, he has served with his local church's education and small group ministry. He has also been actively involved with the leadership of the Midwest region of the Evangelical Theological Society (chairing the regional society in 2008 and 2012), as well as participating in several public debates on university campuses. In coordination with his teaching in Moody's Theology Department, he's led study trips to Greece and Turkey, and taught in other Moody overseas venues.

Dr. O’Neal served in church planting and pastoral ministry in the Indianapolis area for more than 13 years.

He and his wife, Denise, have three daughters and live in northwest Indiana.
