Moody is driven by the belief that people committed to living and declaring the Word of God can actually change the world. Since our founding by D.L. Moody in 1886, Moody Bible Institute has been committed to equipping people across the globe, cultures and generations to take the next step toward spiritual maturity.
For more than 125 years, people have come to Moody to be richly equipped in God's Word to impact the world for Christ. Generations of Christ-followers at Moody have committed themselves to studying the Bible and compassionately sharing it with the world.
D.L. Moody arrived in Chicago in 1856 with dreams of making a fortune in the shoe business. Deeply burdened by the city's poor, uneducated children, Moody's mission quickly shifted to teaching them the Bible. These initial Sunday school meetings in a converted saloon birthed Moody Bible Institute and the ministries that followed.
D.L. Moody's passion for honoring God's call on his life and his heart for serving others is the foundation for each of Moody's ministries. From its beginnings and through today, Moody Bible Institute has followed the example of its founder to be a practical, compassionate pioneer in training a multicultural, multi-generational worldwide network of influencers to impact the world for Christ.
There have been many key moments in the history of Moody Bible Institute, like the founding of the Moody Evangelical Society (the pre-curson to Moody Bible Institute) and Moody Aviation.
Many influential people have been behind Moody's far-reaching ministry, like Emma Dryer, the teacher who inspired D.L. Moody to begin his training school, and George Beverly Shea, the award-winning soloist on the Billy Graham Crusades.
Moody has also had many groundbreaking milestones in Christian media, like the launch of WMBI, the oldest non-commercial Christian radio station in the U.S., and the Moody Institute of Science, whose films taught a generation about God's creation.
We desire to give you a deeper understanding of the Word of God that enables you to practically apply it to everyday life and ministry. Every aspect of who we are and what we do is tied to this commitment.
Each of Moody's ministries—Education, Radio, Publishing, Conferences and Today in the Word—offers different ways to equip you with the truth of God's Word and apply it to life.
Moody Bible Institute has been preparing students for ministry since 1886, with a combination of biblical knowledge and practical training. With an undergraduate biblical studies campus in Chicago and an undergraduate aviation campus in Spokane, Washington; seminary campuses in Chicago and Plymouth, Michigan; with online options, Moody Bible Institute has long been considered the gold standard of Bible-based education.
Moody Radio broadcasts biblically uplifting programming from stations throughout the country-including WMBI in Chicago, the oldest non-commercial Christian radio station in the U.S. These same programs, podcasts and Internet stations can be heard streaming on computers and mobile devices all across the globe, reaching multi-cultural and multi-generational audiences every day.
In 1894, D.L. Moody founded what became Moody Publishers from concern over a lack of affordable, applicable Christian books. Today, this publishing house prints 60 new titles each year—in more than 70 languages—from renowned authors like Dr. Gary Chapman, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Tony Evans, Erwin Lutzer, J. Oswald Sanders and A.W. Tozer.
Moody Conferences hosts events across the country to equip and build up pastors, men, marriages and ministry. Each February, Founder's Week is held on Moody's Chicago campus—and broadcast across the globe over radio and streaming video—with respected Bible teachers and worship leaders proclaiming the truth of God's Word and its practical, daily application to our lives.
The Today in the Word daily devotional includes reflections on Scripture, profound monthly articles and sections answering reader questions. Available in print, online and via e-mail, Today in the Word encourages understanding of God's Word and regular reflection on the Scriptures.
Our leadership builds on the pioneering foundation of our rich heritage, setting a course that leads to a deeper understanding of the Word of God for people here and across the globe.
Moody's leadership team includes our president, officers and the Board of Trustees. The Word of God is foundational in our approach to leadership, guiding the way we think about and respond to each challenge and opportunity.
Dr. Mark Jobe serves as 10th president of Moody Bible Institute and host of Moody Radio’s “Bold Steps”. He is author of several books, including “What Now? How to Move into Your Next Season” (Moody Publishers). He is also the founding pastor of New Life Community Church, a Chicago multisite ministry with locations across the world. He earned a diploma from Moody in 1984, a master’s degree from Moody Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in transformational leadership from Bakke Graduate University. He and his wife, Dee, have three adult children and one grandchild.
Our leadership team, including our president and officers, give oversight to the organization. Our Board of Trustees controls and manages Moody's property, funds and business affairs and establishes policy and direction of Moody's ministries.
