Professor of Bible and Theological Studies at Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Andrew Schmutzer, recognized

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Dr. Andrew Schmutzer, professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Moody Bible Institute, received the 2018 Faculty Citation Award.

The award was presented to Dr. Schmutzer by the Alumni Association during the Tuesday morning session of Moody’s annual Founder’s Week conference. Each year the Alumni Association honors a faculty member for his or her distinguished service.

“Having had Dr. Schmutzer when I was a student at Wheaton College, I can attest firsthand to his skill and passion in the classroom,” said vice president and dean of Moody Bible Institute (MBI), Dr. James Spencer. “He is a deeply committed faculty member and it has been a pleasure to serve with him. I know that his students and colleagues are blessed by his ongoing sacrificial work at MBI, especially the mentoring and counsel he provides.”

Dr. Schmutzer has been a member of the Bible and Theology Division at MBI since 1998.

As a widely published author, he has contributed to many academic and ministry-oriented books and journals. Most recently he edited and contributed to The Long Journey Home: Understanding and Ministering to the Sexually Abused. He co-edited (with David Howard) and contributed to The Psalms: Language for All Seasons of the Soul (Moody Publishers, 2013). He is currently contributing to several projects, including a commentary on Esther, a volume on the biblical theology of suffering, and a volume on the church and sexual identity.

Beyond his involvement at MBI, Andrew serves on editorial boards and in professional societies, including the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society for Christian Psychology.
