Historic Bibles

The Archives has numerous Bibles in its collection. Along with the many in English, there are also Bibles in French, German, Danish, Hebrew, and Greek.

A number of these Bibles are of historical significance. Some are unique for their hand-painted artwork and hand carvings, which were trademark features of Bibles produced before the advent of modern mass printing; while others are unique for being the first printings of early editions of historic Bibles.

Some of these Bibles were in a state of deterioration when the Archives acquired them, but they have since been restored. These Bibles, along with their descriptions, have been entered into the Online Catalog. The collection also contains numerous Bibles that originally belonged to notable persons.
